Jerry
Clayton is the voice of Soundcheck Texas, and it's a voice that is familiar
to radio listeners across Texas. He's been involved in the radio business since he
was a kid. "My
mom drove me to my first radio job ... that was over 30 years ago," says Jerry. He
was known for years as "Fred Zeppelin" reporting traffic over the crowded San Antonio
freeways, and later as an afternoon and morning drive personality. (He still manages to get "high
in the sky" regularly
in his Cessna 172 Skyhawk.) Jerry's passion for music
also extends into performing. He
toured with the country group "Mason Dixon" in the 80s, and has played drums for
many bands throughout his career. "Bringing the concept of Soundcheck Texas to
life is one the coolest things I've ever had the opportunity to do," he says.

John
Hogan is the supervising recording engineer for Soundcheck Texas. John and his wife
Teri started Sound Services, Inc., in 1998, and are known to artists and venues far and wide
for their impeccable sound and professionalism. Sound Services shows up on many a
concert rider as the performer's preferred sound company. You can contact Sound Services
at 830-612-3176. |
Steve
Circeo is Soundcheck Texas's webdood. He's not a native Texan, but that's only because "you
can't choose where you're born." He came here from Massachusetts, by way of Albuquerque,
and shortly after moving to San Antonio, he saw Guy Clark and James McMurtry on back-to-back
nights at Floore's. "I was completely blown away by these great 'unknown' singer-songwriters,
and I knew I wanted to help spread the word." A professional web designer and an amateur
photographer, Steve melded those two talents with his passion for Texas music and created T4TX.com.
He says that "working with Soundcheck Texas is an honor and a great opportunity to get
more recognition for Texas music." |
Dan Ryan is the musician responsible for the production and performance
of both the Soundcheck Texas musical theme, as well as the theme for the Texas Music Minute.
He's an accomplished guitarist, composer and arranger, and is the musician solely responsible
for the composition, production, performance and visual design for the recordings of his "imaginary
band," Sol Luna y las Estrellas. You can find Sol Luna's initial CD release, "Imagining
the Waves," at CD
Baby, iTunes,
and other music outlets. Dan (as well as our own Jerry Clayton and others) was a founding
member of the Texas R&B
band Blue Norther, which over its ten-year lifespan opened for many world-famous acts, including
WAR, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ted Nugent, The Marshall Tucker Band, Edgar
Winter, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Buddy Miles. Check 100Trees.com for more
information about Dan and his mysterious musical endeavors. |
Many
of our shows are recorded live at the John
T. Floore Country store, just outside San Antonio in Helotes, Texas. Opened in 1942,
the John T. Floore Country Store is a unique Texas Dance Hall and
Cafe that's renowned for its world famous tamales and homemade bread. Offering good food,
a cold beer, and all the boot scootin' you can stand, Floore's, as many of the regulars call
it, has prospered as the same business in the same location for 60 years.
It was the musical "birthplace" of
Willie Nelson, and Willie immortalized John T. Floore in his hit recording "Shotgun
Willie."
In fact, Mr. Floore and Willie were partners in the original Willie Nelson Music Company.
